Anglet, Biarritz and the surrounding area…

Paradise for golfers

Thanks to its warm climate and its exceptional natural environment, the Basque Country has become a major draw for golfers. At Anglet, the Chiberta International Golf Course, where our hotel is located, was designed by Tom Simpson in 1927 to become (as was stated in the architect's contract) the world's most beautiful golf course. The course he designed got the thumbs up from its demanding owners, with a mix of ocean-side links and an inland in Chiberta forest.

Today, the golf course remains the same as the one designed by Simpson: a 5,647-metre-long Par 70. Since 2002, young players and beginners have been able to practice on the 9-hole Impératrice course.

Around Biarritz,

a selection of fantastic golf courses for a swinging holiday

The Basque country is home to a number of amazing golf courses as well as Chiberta. Near Anglet, Biarritz le Phare is the oldest course in the region. It was opened in 1887: a 5,402 metre Par 69 at the heart of the town. The more recent Ibarritz, also in Biarritz, offers a very technical 9-hole course specially designed for learners.

To the south of Anglet, two other courses are sure to delight amateur golfers: Makila Golf Club in Bassussary, designed by architect Rocky Roquemore among vast expanses surrounded by oaks, and Arcangues, which offers delightful views of the Basque countryside and the Pyrenees.
